Shannon Serge

The research of Shannon Serge (Herceg Novi, 1956), permeated by a constant tension on the dialectic between man and nature, focuses on the interactions between the energy wasted by technology and the environment. In his most famous performance, which dates back to the early eighties, hosted at the Nolomoko Gallery in New York, he asked the audience to wear headphones transmitting the exact same noise a whale can hear when an oil tanker is sailing a hundred yards away. None of the users had survived more than a couple of minutes.
After a decade of inactivity, against the alienation generated by the current excess of connectivity, he will live for six months, six days and six hours in the main hall of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Jinghong in China, with his head under the same electric field generated by a thousand cell phones ringing. During this time he will be completely isolated from the rest of the world.
The peformance will start from 29 December 2013.
